Now Hiring: Interior Design Assistant
wldwst is currently seeking an Interior Design Assistant for our residential and commercial design studio in downtown Leesburg, Virginia. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for interiors and strong technical skills looking to experience many facets of the design process throughout the lifecycle of a project. wldwst is a rapidly growing design business and we want our team to grow with us! We are seeking a design assistant who wants to get in on the ground floor and grow within the company as we expand.
The ideal candidate is extremely organized with meticulous attention to detail and quality. We seek someone who is results driven, an exceptional communicator, and collaborative. They are comfortable talking with clients, contractors, and vendors, and eager to help us create a seamless client experience. Candidate must by proficient in SketchUp - with the ability to create to-scale floorplans, elevations, and 2D and 3D renderings. Technical drawing will be a large part of the design assistant’s role.
The Interior Design Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks throughout the lifecycle of each design project, including but not limited to:
* Project Management: oversee project schedules and budgets and have accountability for timely deliverables
* Knowledgable on all Client guidelines for design, drawings and specifications
* Create and oversee design drawings and documents for Client presentations
* Responsible for cross-checking all deliverables for detail and accuracy
* Anticipate and provide solutions to problems related to production delays, long lead-time items, vendor scheduling or anything that would cause a project delay
* Attend all client presentations, client meetings and installations
* Review all custom millwork, FF&E shop drawings, CFAs, and samples for detail and accuracy
* Attend project site visits to assist the lead designer with measurements, photographs of raw spaces, and space planning
* Collaborate and communicate with all project vendors (contractors, installers, etc.)
* Create specification sheets for clients
* Source and place product and material orders and monitor progress of all open orders, handle product returns
* Maintain schedules to ensure projects adhere to timelines and all deadlines are met
* Maintain samples library and trade account database
* Visit vendor showrooms to gather swatches, samples, etc.
Required Technical Skills:
* 2D and 3D renderings
* SketchUp
* Mac OS
* Google suite - docs, sheets, drive
* Must be proficient in reading and interpreting architectural and CAD drawings
Preferred Technical Skills:
* Excel
* InDesign, Photoshop
* Canva
Education and Experience:
* Bachelors or Associates Degree in Interior Design or Architecture preferred
* 2+ years working in interior design or architecture industry preferred
Other Requirements:
* Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time
* Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and maneuver physically within spaces (ie: during client installs, measuring, etc. - parts of the job can be somewhat physical.)
* Must have reliable transportation - our clients are located throughout Virginia and DC and the design assistant will need their own vehicle
* Must use personal computer compatible with SketchUp
Hours and Compensation:
* Part-time, hourly position
* Approximately 30 hours per week minimum
* Work day hours may vary based on the needs of client projects - but typical office hours will be 11am to 5pm Monday through Friday
